In the summer of 2021 UNINTERRUPTED, the virtual reality version, was launched with a tour through Metro Vancouver. It had been quite a while since people could gather in a public space to enjoy art together – and we had a memorable summer as “sold out” audiences enjoyed being immersed outdoors together. (Tickets were free but had to be booked in advance – and for most shows all the seats were taken, generally weeks in advance)
Four locations hosted the touring event as we migrated the 2017 production from the Cambie Bridge into VR. Outdoors at each location there were four showings nightly – at the Museum of Vancouver, the veranda of the Burnaby Art Gallery, the plaza next to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and the Shipyard Commons in North Vancouver. Each member of the audience was seated in a swivel chair and equipped with a VR headset to enjoy the 360 degree experience.
Our thanks and appreciation go to our funding partners who made it possible – our VR and digital crews who created elegance and ease out of complexity – our summer tour team and the streamkeeper volunteers who brought it all home – and finally to our audiences who donned the headsets to take the journey to the salmon on the bridge!
