Oldfield Creek Fish Hatchery
The Oldfield Creek Fish Hatchery is a volunteer driven, non-profit organization operated by the Prince Rupert Salmonid Enhancement Society and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
One of the most exciting things the hatchery offers to the community is a number of fantastic volunteer opportunities, including:
• Fish culture: care for thousands of juvenile salmon by feeding, cleaning tanks, and egg picking
• Smoltfest: help children release Coho smolts back to Olfield creek. Fun for the whole family!
• Brood stock collection: net or angle for adult spawners for egg and milt collection-by far the most exciting!
Volunteering with the hatchery provides invaluable hands-on experience, as well as a chance to get to know the different species of Pacific salmon first hand.
